The
Lloyds TSB group's story began in the 18th Century when
a private banking business was created by John Taylor and
Sampson Lloyd, the sons of the original partners began Barnetts
Hoares Hanbury and Lloyd. Throughout time the Lloyds Bank
Group was created by mergers of smaller banks.
The Reverend Henry Duncan of Ruthwell, Dumfriesshire, in
1810 began a bank for his parishioners. Over the years this
was developed into the TSB Bank PLC in 1989. 1995 saw a
merger with Cheltenham & Gloucester and the merger with
Lloyds Bank Group. The result: the TSB Group PLC.
