There
are many factors that contribute to your credit score, one
of these is your current available credit.
There
are some logical steps that may help you keep a good credit
score. These boil down to using good practice in managing
your credit, including cards and loans.
If a credit card company can see you already have active
credit card account on your credit file they have proof
that you are either capable or not capable to manage credit.
The difference between a capable and borrower and a non
capable borrower lies with what the history of these cards,
and other credit items, on your credit file. If card companies
see a pattern of non payments and credit cards almost up
to or reaching their limit then this is an indication of
a non capable borrower which could affect your acceptance.
If however there is a pattern of well managed cards with
no non payments and well managed balances then they have
an indication of a capable borrower.
The
longer your credit history the more lenders have to go on
to assess you. It may be a good idea not to cancel your
oldest cards so as to show you have a long a credit history
as possible, however if you have a lot of dead cards in
between you could consider whether to cancel some of these.
